@juju1305 I would say let’s wait and see, so far the shown form of 2010 does give us the impression that she won’t be able to indeed, but u never know for sure. We’ ll have to wait for 2011 to be sure about that statement. I am very excited to see how she will handle AO 2011(mentally!!!) with all those points to defend and the pressure comming on… We can’t totally disregard a champion like Justine, but dear god I hope she kicks some Russian ass next year especially sharapova:))) /spit on her!
@janjan55555 I think this is not new. Evonne Goolagong won a slam after having her baby. Graf was injured 97-98 and won again (FO99), Seles came back after the horrible stabbing and won a slam. Capriati won 3 slams after a long time off. Pierce came back from injury and had one of her best years in 2005 (2 slam finals +YEC final). Hingis came back into top 10 in 2006 after 4 years off. Serena came from 140th back to #1. In men’s competition, Agassi and Ivanisevic are good examples too
@janjan55555 well, Clijsters had played 2 or 3 smaller events prior to the US open last year that helped her on the way to winning the US open. But you can’t compare indeed. Henin’s game relies on a lot more variation than Clijsters, making it probably harder to sustain when not 100% fit physically or mentally. I think Henin’s main challenge will be to accept that she won’t be able to dominate like she did in 2006 and 2007.
@juju1305 As far as tennis goes these days, it’s still awful quality. Justine and Kim instantly came back at to p5 quality perhaps even top3. The fact that Clijsters and Justine instantly reached final at comeback says alot of the consistency of women’s tennis these days. The only ppl who can really defeat the belgians are themselves when they are playing bad so far
@juju1305 Now that’s a well written comment I totally agree with
She was indeed the player to beat, but she stated herself 2010 IS AND WILL REMAIN REGARDLESS OF RESULTS a transition year. So she still needs to find her game/stride/confidence step by step. It’s also wrong to compare to Clijsters since she had a total different road at comeback she started off at her favorite tournament. Perhaps if Justine started playing at ROland Gaross we would see a similar result aka unranked winning RG.
@janjan55555 Maybe she was putting a lot of pressure on herself because despite her not playing in 2008 and 2009, she was somehow the player to beat because she had won in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Many people expected her to win and produce the kind of tennis she was capable of at the French in her prime years. Obviously, it was much tougher for her than back in those days…
@juju1305 Yes but don’t tell me this is the EXACT SAME henin like we saw in RG 2010… She played awful in the first 3 rounds, I didn’t notice the same person who always fights and takes risks… It’s like her selfesteem got damaged and she played very ’safely’.
@janjan55555 that’s th difference between regular tournaments and slams don’t you think? Henin once dominated them but tennis has moved on while she was out of the game.

@juju1305 Not against this Henin though, at french she played horrible …. lack of confidence, lack of gut killed her in that 4th round

One month later, who’s laughing at the French… Sam ! She learnt from that defeat and finished the job
